The Friends of Mississippi Public Broadcasting (MPB) invite you to a sneak preview of the Season 2 premiere of “Downton Abbey” on Tuesday, Jan. 3 at 7 p.m. at the Powerhouse Community Arts Center in Oxford. This event is free and open to the public.
Winner of six Emmy Awards, “Downton Abbey” is a story of love and intrigue. The plot depicts the intertwined lives of the aristocratic Crawley family and their servants. Season 2 resumes during the tumultuous time of World War I.
Following the show, University of Mississippi professor Dr. Susan R. Grayzel, an expert on European history, will give a brief talk about the time period portrayed in the show. Afterwards, there will be a drawing to win “Downton Abbey” Season 1 on Blu-Ray.

The Fiber Arts Festival is a 3-day celebration that shows that art is, not only, beautiful, but functional! This is a family friendly festival that is open to the public. The festival opens Friday, January 20, 2012 at 2 p.m. with the exhibitor and demostration rooms. A wine and cheese reception will be held at 6 p.m. for the community prior to a presentation by Linda Weghorst on African Kente Cloth. Vendors will be demonstrating spinning of wool and cotton on drop spindles and spinning wheels, weaving, felt making, and rug hooking.
Workshops will include:
Kids, make and take art- (free) -God's eye, finger knitting, and yarn bombing
Kids classes: Pot holder loom with loops and pot holder loom with yarn wrap
Older children through adult workshops: -Kumihimo braiding, felting (2 sessions), flower loom, knitted short row scarf
Adult workshops: -pin weaving (featured workshop) -triangle loom weaving |

The Holiday Art Market will be at the Powerhouse December 2 & 3 from 8 a.m. - 9 p.m.; featuring local artwork for sale from the Oxford Artist Guild. Spaces are limited, but if you are interested in having a booth or table at the art market please click here to fill out the form and turn in this form to the Arts Council office at the Powerhouse to reserve your spot. |

Oxford Artist Guild's 2nd Annual Biggest Baddest Art Show at the Powerhouse begins November 7-30.
With over 80 members in the Artist Guild, this really is the BIGGEST show they've ever put on. They require that each member contribute at least one piece for the show. Some of the artists include: Lois Arrechea (acrylic and oil), Andi Bedsworth (mixed media collage), Lori Blaylock (oils), Nicole Gladden (oil and mixed media), Allan Innman (painterand print maker, oils, mixed media and seriographs), Stan O'Dell (oil, drawing, photography), and Jennifer Pace-Wilson (pottery).
Biggest Baddest Art Reception: Monday, November 14th from 6-8 p.m.
