This Saturday, September 4th between 10:00 and 2:00 pm come and check out the FREE Art Class at the Maker's Market located at the Lyric Theater, just off the Square. The art class is being taught by Chandra Williams, and is sponsored by the Arts Council.

Laff Co. is Oxford's local comedy group providing entertainment with improv, stand up, and all those jokes you'll be telling at the bar later on tonight.

It's $5 at the door and as always, 
free pudding and laffs.

Enjoy the eclectic soulful sounds of the guitar, mandolin, and upright bass, and the soothing harmonies of the group.

We will have snacks provided by Newk's, door prizes, and surprises for the whole family.

Square Table Gets a Mention on NPR

The Arts Council would like to congratulate one of our members, Kaye Bryant, as being selected as the biggest fan for NPR’s show Whadya Know. Kaye was asked on the show and she represented Oxford by giving a gift basket on air to the host which included YAC’s Square Table Cookbook. She was able to talk about the cookbook that includes her famous pimento cheese recipe.

Powerhouse Gallery Series: Now Accepting Submissions for Gallery Shows

Powerhouse Gallery Accepting Submissions

The Powerhouse is a community art space offering artists the ability create and show their work while providing the community access to exhibits that capture the visions of local artists. The past two years the working with local artist, the Oxford Artists Guild the Yoknapatawpha Arts Council has been able to host a series of shows that capture the themes and ideas of local artists.recycled art 3

 

The Arts Council is now accepting submissions for the 2011 gallery series. The gallery program offers artist the chance to submit works for a series of joint shows where several artists will be featured showcasing work based on a theme or for an individual show. Applications are available through the Arts Council office located in the Powerhouse.

 

There is no cost for submission to the series. The program is support in party by a grant from the Mississippi Arts Commission, the City of Oxford, and Lafayette County.
Deadline for submissions is September 15, 2010

The Arts Council is featured on Mississippi Edition discussing the importance of the 50 States for Good grant sponsored by Tom’s of Maine.
The Arts Council is a finalist in a national program that will award $20,000 to five worthy community projects.
The 50 States for Good program allows community members to vote for the project they would like to see receive the funding.
Mississippi Edition shares with the state how to support the Arts Council.
