posterforlousummersunsetconcertseries2010The 10th season of the Lafayette-Oxford-University Summer Sunset Series returns this June. Join us each Sunday this June in The Grove.   The series, produced by the University of Mississippi Cultural Events Committee, includes four live concerts in the Grove, each set for 7 p.m. Sundays in June. The programs are free and open to the public. Families are encouraged to bring chairs, food and drinks. In case of rain, concerts will be moved to Fulton Chapel.

Join us this week as the Yoknapatawpha Arts Council features artists from the Oxford Songwriters Association in a Songwriters Showcase. The concert will feature the Swinging Prevaricators. The band is a perfect example of musical

talent in this region as it features Luke Fisher and Kevin Guyer who play in a variety of music incarnations from The Cakewakers, Okratones and the Swinging Prevaricators. This incarnation of their tales shows both the joy in writing music and the music that shaped their passion.  “As a musician I enjoy writing but sometimes playing the music that

inspired me to learn music helps to reenergize me.  It is like a classic book.  A classic can inspire you no matter how many times you read it. Hearing a great piece of music has the effect,” said Guyer.

Sunday, June 20, will feature The Blackbird Hour which snatches the  talents of various performers around a nucleus of David Woolworth and Brad Hayden. Their performance is sponsored by the University Museum which is perfect paring as it shows that works of art can be aural and lyrical.  Join the rest of the community for music in The Grove.  There is

nothing more important than dancing barefoot in the grass under the  stars on a Mississippi night
