After many years of planning, development and renovation, YAC moved into its new home in 2006, the historic Powerhouse. Built in 1928, the structure is a vintage brick and stone warehouse that once housed the Oxford Electric Company. Phase One renovations of the structure were funded by generous grants from the Mississippi Arts Commission Building Fund for the Arts, The City of Oxford and the Department of Housing and Urban Development. In addition to YAC’s office, the center currently contains a 2,800 sq. ft. exhibition hall and an intimate 160-seat flexible theatre. The center is made available to other non-profit and private groups to be used for parties, receptions, dances, banquets, conferences, workshops and seminars. For usage information and a copy of the usage contract please download the following documents:
YAC will launch a new fundraising campaign for the planned Phase Two renovations of the Powerhouse in the near future. Phase Two renovations will focus on the completion of the theatre space, including lighting, flooring, acoustics, staging and seating.
YAC would like to extend their sincere thanks and gratitude to the following individuals and groups who have been instrumental in the planning, development and adaptive renovation of the historic Powerhouse:
