Keep Ron’s Spirit Alive

Hoka Days returns this August to celebrate music, food, literature, and the performing arts. Inspired by Ron Shapiro, this month-long celebration offers free cultural events inviting residents to try a new experiences, explore new spaces, and become part of the community.

Donations to the Arts Council during Hoka Days events will be used to support a new sculpture honoring Ron Shapiro. The original projectors from the Lyric Theatre, which in turn became the Hoka projectors, have been donated to the Arts Council. Durant Thompson, sculpture instructor at the University of Mississippi and co-founder of the Yokna Sculpture Trail, will work with sculpture students to transform the projectors into a new work to be added to the Yokna Sculpture Trail in honor of Ron Shapiro.

Donations will be used to cover the cost of supplies to create and install a new sculpture.

Ron and Misty Feder, of the Feder Foundation for the Beaux Arts, invite the community to match their donation to support the public art project.  The goal is to raise $5,000.
